Vic actually does have a good point. They measure global surface temperatures to see what the trends are. Most of the surface is water. So if the water is cooler and wind is blowing across the water to land, that could cool things down. HOwever, that doesn't jive with the other evidence that says ocean surface temps are increasing with global warming. So on balance, it's hard to say where the truth lies.
