Even if Apple had a lineup that included every single price point and configuration currently offered by Dell, I don't believe they would then be able to expand their market share to the same size as Dell's. Not unless they sold computers with Windows preinstalled. Just maybe, if they did sell computers with Windows preinstalled, and at all of Dell's price points, they could expand their market significantly. But at what cost to their current business and their brand? - Allen Answer to 1st Paragraph: No, that would be looking backwards, pointless and would skirt the issue as I see it. I only see the need for continued growth in Macintosh sales. I see the current product spread as growing market share, albeit incrementally. I see missed opportunities that may be able to accelerate sales growth without eroding margins. I see that Apple has reached a point in their growth vector where inaction in this area will lead to a plateau.2nd Paragraph: Now you're talking to sinclap. I'm only saying that they can do better than 3 desktop product lines (form factors).3rd Paragraph: Huh? Windows pre-installed? Dell's price points? I sense a red herring. Or, are you addressing sinclap again? ... No matter. ... I'm in total agreement with Steve Jobs on maintaining high margins and high quality. I haven't suggested any action that would lead to diluting the brand with low quality product, nor would I. I learned a long time ago that in retail, you have to offer product at multiple price points to maximize return. Apple has been doing that very well with the iMac, but not so much with the Mac Pro and the Mini. Rather than suggest a multi Mini approach, or more Mac Pros, I merely suggest a couple of new form factors; one above the iMac and the other below it or below the Mini. I don't know how much plainer I can put it. Windows pre-installed... Where do you get this stuff?
