Hi Jim. An interesting post, not the least because it prompted some self examination, as I'm sure was part of your intent, or at least an expectation you had. The part about controlled assimilation was of particular interest, causing me to think of how similar, tacit barriers exist in SI, both through the viewing and posting privileges governing the behavior of "guests" and the oversight exerted by SI admins and board moderators as well. Probably of equal or greater interest is the analogous manner in which meta-filtering is managed on this forum through the wetware of its participants, as opposed to means (memes?) supported by software running on a server, probably in some entrepreneur's basement or attic in Estonia or on a rack situated in some converted auto factory in Michigan.
