I don't even underestand the debate. If people want one sided threads dominated by moderators and mobs why don't they just leave Bob alone and go to IHUB?

Absolutely, threads are run by moderators with SI Admin as the final arbiter. They should not be run by whatever mobs want to gang up on a given poster or posters. I second that. But how about adding the ability to "dis" a post as the opposite of recommending it? Doesn't hide or remove the post but gives the ability to provide negative feedback just as recommending gives positive feedback. Oh, and if you don't like this idea, persuade Bob to implement it so that you can dis this post to show your disapproval.
