No because the structure of the market has changed. 1-Mar # of companies trading 4947 total Volume 44,682,703,641 22 days in the month Block Vol 15,240,913,856 # of trades 54,601,890 # of Block Trades 603,487 Last thursday 1 trading day July 09 8-Jul 2999 Near record low since 3-2000. Total Vol2,110,543,143 Block Vol 323,100,353 Total trades 8,612,159 Block Trades 11,084 obvious differences 1. Totl. Companies no longer trading 1948 2. Number of Trades daily went from an avg of 2 mill 400k to over 8 million, and 8 million is below avg for the year 09 to date..... why cant the market systems serve themselves with the market going up? They can and have, the duration determined ultimately by available supply..... more trading, fewer companies, less market float reduces to contrivance. with prices being adjudicated by factors other than owners of stock transacting shares in a free market. my opinion about direction is from market characterization studies...just an opinion, cast within a framework....that includes the above data. add in this sample company data sample; Company Details Total Shares Out Standing (millions): 28 Market Capitalization ($ millions): $524 Institutional Ownership: 107.5% company went through an IPO Process that legally authorized sale of 28 million shares....and yet... many more millions than 28 are registered and trading....
