I don't think so. Renting is expensive. However, I think this problem of range for electric cars is a passing problem. They have already solved it at GM with the VOLT, which is a range extended vehicle. Then in a decade they will invent batteries that have double the energy density with half the space requirements and that will solve the range problem without the need for a gas engine to provide range extension. These are the easiest problems to solve. Scaling up and overcoming the barriers to entry are much harder problems to solve than the technological limitations.
