I think you just showed why you don't understand economies of scale. It has nothing to do with lithium. Economies of scale applies to all the other parts of the car and the battery production. Lithium is a commodity, and so, as far as that commodity goes, the price will be more governed by supply and demand. However, the battery constructed (with lithium as one piece within it) is the thing that will benefit from economies of scale, as well as all the other parts of the car. Right now, the batteries and the electric cars are being made in such small quantities, that they are expensive. Make them in higher quantities and they become less expensive.

Also, you didn't address the second half of my question, which was why do you believe the battery technology will stand still over the next 10 or more years, when technology never stands still, especially in a period of massive investment like we're seeing now in all components of the electric car.

Honestly, Hawk, the statements you are making now about electric cars will make you look very foolish 10 years from now. I am going to enjoy telling you, "I told you so."
