Schwarzenegger, a Republican, has repeatedly said he won’t endorse another round of tax increases. Instead, he’s proposed deep cuts to spending on schools, health insurance programs and welfare, and sought to link the passage of the budget to measures he says would crack down on fraudulent claims for state aid. Democrats have bristled at the scale of the cuts, saying they would deal a blow to residents already reeling from the economic recession.

And more taxes don't deal a blow to us? It's time social programs in CA get cut to the bone. I'm through financing the status quo welfare state. I was in the grocery store yesterday with three people in front of me at the cashier. All three used food stamps with the second woman having her 20-something husband pushing the cart. Both had rings so I assume they were married. If they don't have work here in CA, why are they still here? Get mom and dad to loan them $ to go somewhere where they can find work. CA isn't coming back anytime soon. Cut all the social programs in half and make them suffer along with the rest of us. Necessity is the mother of invention. Yeah, I know, I'm heartless, but I've never taken a government dime even though I haven't had a job since Jan. 2008. Maybe I'm just stupid.

“We have several more days to go,” Democratic Assembly leader Karen Bass told reporters during a break in the meetings yesterday. “What I think is most important is that talks have not broken down.”

Well, that'll get it done. Along with the proposal from a San Francisco assemblyman to legalize marijuana.
