I'm of a mind that you don't want government doing anything that private enterprise can do better. If you want to provide catastrophic coverage, I'm not inherently opposed to a co-op arrangement as Conrad has suggested.

But just involving government for no real reason seems like a bad idea to me. Government just has a propensity for screwing up everything it touches.
