Where the hell have you been? There was no power anywhere in Iraq that could have overthrown Saddam.

Of course there were.....the Kurds were one possibility. The shelf life of dictators is rarely long. How do you think nations become free? Some big nation comes along and frees them? Only in neo fairy tales. Typically its the people revolting.
