I bot a dog and chips in the park a couple years ago. It came to about $1.65 and I paid the girl with a 5. She just stared at it, not having a clue what to do next. I had to tell hew how to make change... and she cried. Wouldn't you think the owner of that stand would have taught her that? Or that she might have been bright enough to ask how to do it?

Of course, I'm no one to talk. Since spell checker, I can't spell worth a hoot any more. As a kid I won spelling bees.

I think I mentioned to you that Erika has worked at the little store at the place where we camp. Dave, the owner, taught her how to make change, and at age 11 she can count it back without hesitation. Good skill to have, IMO.

When we were down there last weekend, she ran a tab and anytime she took a piece of candy or drink she wrote it down. At the end of the visit, she totaled everything up and paid for it all.
