brian-

thanks for the info. the thing is WSTL probably has the GTE contract and we already have a number of smaller ones and Bell Atlantic, plus we have license agreements and partnerships with almost everyone. i dont think its quite as speculative as people seem to think. that being said, i dont think the optomistic projections that are being bandied about are completely justified. it seems like our friends (and i use the term advisedly) in management have not been as forthcoming as we would like.

the scary thing is, there is a very real chance we will nto get anything more than little contracts. yes, the company can be profitable with them, but everyone on wall street thinks that any loss of a contract is reason to drive down the price, as is any delay in deployment. this is a stupid, but it has happened and will likely happen again. is the bell canada announcement one of the three? this is a question i would really like to know the answer to. if so, why didnt the company at least try to put a positive spin on it? why isnt the company telling us anything? yes, patience is a virtue, but this is getting ridiculous.

good luck to all,
trey

Brian, I would advise caution on owning Westell and would wait on Ascend for a lower price than $25. Ascend has got some serious problems near term and is too overvalued to hold up. Westell is likely to take a hard hit if not today soon. The market is going to go into its typical mode of figuring something must be terrible wrong with Westell. The market already isn't to keen short term about the Amati buy. Strategically it was the right move to make for Westell, but the market is more concerned with whether it got a good deal and what short term impact the purchase will have on Westell. My bet is, of course, single digits for Westell before this has played out. I also don't currently own Westell or Ascend. Still on the sidelines, but am watching for an entry point if it comes.

This sector will have a great year in 98. PAIR remains my favorite and it is beginning to gain momentum from all the analyst upgrades. Good things are happening there. WSTL will benefit from the increasing interest in the sector, but will not be the best stock to own. It is a part of my portfolio though. As I mentioned in my previous post, ASND would be attractive when it breached 25. It fell below 25 today and I began buying. This is a good buying opportunity for 6-12 month double. Good luck all.
