Bud is locally famous, and has become something of a guru. I no longer agree with everything he says, but he's one of the greatest people in my life. If somebody weren't already writing his biography, I would have to do it. His son Bill and I are best pardners and have been since before either of us can remember. That makes it about sixty years now. Next month we are going to be together on Salmon Mountain, a fire lookout manned by volunteers. He recruited me, and I've been there twice with him in prior years. This year I have my own gig. We got our first jobs together and served on fire lookouts in 1962 where we could see each other with binoculars. Everybody should have a pard like Bill and a hero like Bud.
