Cut and fill gets all the ore out at each drill and blast cycle. It is cleaner so to speak. Higher cost because of the pumping, backfill problem. It is always desirable however to fill a stope after, with rock or paste. No matter the cycle time.

This loses less gold than shrinkage which causes more wasting dilution as 66% of the ore sits in the stop for a long time before being withdrawn. Fines losses and free gold losses are also higher as you note.
