In the irony of all ironies, the Republican party is now the party of white southern racists while the Democratic party is the party of minorities and civil rights...

You have to admit the Republican party now allows darker skin whites to join the party and from what I understand, they have equal voting privileges.

Gore Sr was one of those old time Democratic southerners. So was Clinton's mentor, Fulbright. But Gore and Bubba didn't leave the party. Jimmy Carter got his political start running against school busing, calling for maintaining the ethnic purity of neighborhoods. And Ku Klux Byrd is still leading the Democrats in the Senate.

The movement of southern white voters out of the Democratic party coincided with a similar move among northern urban ethnics - Irish, Poles, Italians - and was a reaction to the seizure of the Democratic party by its leftwing (call it the McGovern wing) in the early '70's. Southern whites were actually one of the more loyal Democratic constituencies for awhile, which is why the Democrats turned to running white southern Democrats for President - they couldn't elect anyone else for a period there.

The Democratic party is still the party of division and ethnic and racial resentment and fear. Maybe they're scaring different people now but the tactic is the same.

see how easy that was? I made my point with no defense from the thread democrats. You can't defend your own racist party, the party of "affirmative action", the party of the ACORN, the party of Jesse, the party of KKK Byrd, the party of Al Sharpton, and now the party of Hussien "empathy" Obama from Kenya...

btw, your recollection of the 60s democrats is wrong except for LBJ. Look up algore's daddy...
