I spent a lot of time with the ancient Greeks in my youth. If they had not been destroyed by the Romans I feel civilzation would be 1,000 years ahead of where we are. The last hurdle they needed to jump was the inductive method of investigation. They relied almost entirely on the deductive method. They knew the world was round to within 25 miles and they had developed logic to the level of sophisticstion that was not revisted until the worlds greatest logician Goetha. PS self education is fine if one has the interest. The only thing I am a zealot about is the need for people to develop their minds. Brains are not born, they are developed. Threads like this one have educated me greatly.
