So why is it that all the major automotive industry battery makers are gearing up bigtime to supply auto batteries for BEV and Hybrids? Are they all stupid?

Look.. we have GM and Chrysler in BK.. Ford still on the ropes.. A financial credit crisis and lurking deflationary spiral...

Does that answer your question of "are they all stupid"?

They do what the Obama Administration is directing them to do. The battery makers see the hand-writing on the wall and are gearing up to make a killing selling a mandated scarce commodity, Li-Ion batteries.

Maybe it will all work out in the end. But I'm not seeing any certainty in accomplishing it at a cost that's acceptable to the American consumer, let alone the developing world.

You keep talking about 10 years from now, while I'm focusing on this year and next year (which the car companies should also be focusing upon).

They guy, John Peterson, makes an interesting argument for using his company's (Axiom Power) Lead-Acid Carbon batteries. I don't see them being very practical for smaller cars, but certainly for service and fleet vehicles.

What I appreciate about his writing is that he's presenting some very persuasive arguments for why Li-Ion isn't ready yet.
Maybe someday.. But not yet.
