Your comments on SOES trading are very accurate. I'm a retail broker who spent many years in the full-service/discount arena. I left to trade for my clients at what I call an execution firm. I couldn't believe the difference and I'm in the industry. We use the DOT system for NYSE orders and INSTINET, SELECTNET, and SOES for Nasdaq orders. We don't get paid for order flow and route our orders directly to the NYSE or NASDAQ so we don't have market makers geting in the way. I only asked my serious clients to make the switch and they are amazed. They used to get put on hold for ten minutes on days like these. Now since I only speak with a few clients they are able to get through right away. Further commentary on the SOES system came on the DOW JONES wire today at 3:50: In a report by Anne Colden she wrote "traders said the SOES system functioned well, maintaining liquidity and providing access for small investors during a stressful time in the market."
