so they have black boxes trading against black boxes...i don't see how its any different than having stop orders being swept out since they are visible....from my perspective, the algo trading results in false volume readings that indeed skew markets....

the naz has a page that lists stocks that are up on 'unusual volume'.....unusual volume, really?

note what they say about the significance of the volume uptick:

Unusual Volume for NASDAQ Stocks

Unusual volume tells you something important is going on with a stock, and you should pay attention. Learn More about how how you can benefit from Unusual Volume.

click on the link to see the stocks they're monitoring now...

volume metrics would appear to be meaningless now
