i was just talking to a contractor who was giving me a bid for some work the other day, and of course the discussion eventually veered into the housing market....he told me he just got off of PMI (been living in his house for 5 years....guess that refi after 'increased equity' scheme didn't work out so well<g>) his way of eliminating the PMI? he refinanced some farm ground he owned (inheritance) and took out 'equity' (more debt) to pay down his loan to escape the pmi... another example of decks being re-arranged on the titanic
