I probably won't live long enough to see the next phase, which will be to take pity on all those folks who can't pay for supplemental policies either because they were too poor to start with or have been made too poor by the taxes that will have been imposed to pay for the increased costs of the system and scrap the supplemental policies in favor of the single payer system covering everything.

Could be.

But that doesn't mean that 1) his approach to bringing costs down will actually do that (I believe with certainty that it will increase costs and that the true believers just can't/won't see that.)

You probably know that I think we should go to single payer, and I do believe it will bring down cost. I don't believe that 'the sausage' that is going through Congress is going to reduce cost... certainly not in the short term.

2) that he wouldn't go ahead even knowing that costs would go up.

Beyond my ability to know or desire to speculate.
