Obama and the current Democratic majority and their momentum are bad enough, but when the alternative is a Republican party that is weak, disunited, and unpopular right now, and that when it had power tended to also expand government, things really don't look so good. But then I must remember that most trends don't last forever, and there is perhaps some real hope for some important change (by which I don't mean the Obama version of hope and change, which amounts to taking some of the worst of what went before and increasing it)
