land grants... that's why my old-timers came here. being scot-irish, they might have thought twice once they got here... but it was land in large amounts to farm... not plantation size, mind you. but 160 acres keeps food on the table.

and winter here is better than Michigan, I would think... it vaires between real cold, as in 0, which is hardly midwest weather... and mild... barely below 30 degrees, and not damp. I almost get sad when it stays around 30... no reason to break out the thermal coveralls. take out the humidity in summer, which is actually simply an irritant, it is almost perfect weather... yes, it can vary on the rainfall, but for the most part the rain takes care of the crops, sans watering... and you have green fields for cows to graze in, just throw them some hay in winter. it is rather ideal.

I was born in Alabama, but grew up in Texas from age 2. Prior to Alabama I think my ancestry come a lot from Georgia.
