That was just the fist link I found that disputed your asstalk. There are thousands of them. Glaspie gave Saddam a green light. Why? We'll apparently never know, since she's not allowed to talk about it.

Its amazing how they silenced her. Thank God for the internet. Stuff like that will be much harder to pull.

As i remember it, Saddam had a dispute with Kuwait over some oil fields, we told him we didn't have an opinion on the dispute, which implied we wouldn't make a big fuss if he took those fields. But instead Saddam took all of Kuwait, and it was game on from there.

It's also been argued that Bush Sr. wanted a substantial troop presence in the region, and that the Iraq War was the best way to accomplish that goal.

We did keep a permanent presence in Saudi Arabia after the war, which was one of Bin Laden's chief grievances against us.

It's also been argued that one of the reasons we invaded Iraq was to get our troops out of SA.
