In many ways that's the same thing I'm saying, just with a different spin.

I'm focusing on the trend, there was a consistent downtrend in the debt to GDP levels (which isn't surprising considering the early points of that downtrend where from the massive and unprecedented WWII levels, and the later points coincided with inflating away debt), then there was a fairly consistent trend the other way (with only a short term move against the trend that coincided with several unusual circumstances).
