I know I've mentioned this before, but now that I'm a medicare baby, I'll blame it on old age.

I started a small business in 1974 and still work. Health insurance has always factored into my planning.

When we moved to the Ozarks, I did so with a computer and reduced my company size from nine to two, and accordingly our major medical outlays.

Two years ago (a year before I went on medicare), we had a major medical plan that carried a $1000 deductible. That January when we received our new policy from Fortis, they wanted (for the two of us), $4000 per quarter premiums! AND we had a ten year history of no claims! Seems like when you hit the age sixty threshold, the premiums soar.

Naturally we reverted to a PPO plan and realized a somewhat lower premium, but that's my story, and for me, what I now pay toward medicare (about $270 per month), is a godsend.

Part of that increase was a new mental health coverage mandate from the Feds. They keep putting new "features" into your policy.
