Steal a loaf of bread to feed your family and the force of the law/lawmakers sledgehammer will squash every ounce of self esteem out of an individual. Steal $700 million and watch the law/lawmakers flip and flap with the ultimate result of much ado about nothing. Paulson, as you have clearly delineated, broke the law in his taking matters into his own hands to protect his own personal gains and not only needs to be yanked off stage but fined $700 million and incarcerated for a lengthy spell. Won't happen though because democracy has evolved, since its North American inception, into a two tiered system whereby the financially powerless are kept fenced in on their farms by a fairly draconian legal system while for the financially powerful, the law seems merely a tedious tool, to be waved around publicly but only on those few occasions when their flagrant legal abuses set off the "public consciousness" of the financially powerless. Paulson and his GS cabal are the gatekeepers of the legal system for the financially powerful. Hence, expect ZERO recriminations for Paulson's illegal actions. ............................................................. Madoff was a sacrificial lamb for this financially powerful group. No doubt his family will be financially well rewarded for his absorbing the SOLE legal punishment meted out in this $60 billion scandal. I mean really...It is an affront to any sensibility to foist upon the public psyche, that one man, and one man alone, was responsible for the $60 billion debacle. This scam could not have been pulled off without the complicity of co-workers, bankers, investment houses, and brokers, numbering, I'm guessing 100's in the know and actively participating in the scam. Problem again is that Madoff's "scam cabal" is too big for legal recrimination. Too many public figures would be tarred and feathered if those included in the "Madoff cabal" were to be brought to justice. Not unlike how Paulson and his GS cabal have closed legal ranks around their colossal financial robberies, the Madoff cabal has been able to contain any legal damage to Madoff alone in this, and I'll say it again, $60 billion calamitous crime. In fact, one might wonder if the same invisible hands weren't pulling the legal strings behind the Paulson and the Madoff containment manoeuvrings. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then chances are it is a duck!
