We built a space station to do basic science - a moon base is of little value and really expensive to take things there and back. We also sent up a lot of probes - not enough for me - but some and of course Hubble with vision issues. I'm wondering when we'll do the Mars trip - that would be something and before the Chinese do the trip.

Tonite they showed John F. Kennedy going in front of Congress demanding that we get to the moon within the decade of the 1960s. The US had a man on the moon 8 years later. Now we can't anything down without a lot of fighting......and a lot of ratcheting down of expectations. Why? Was the country more united in the '60s? Up through Carter, we kept reducing the national debt. What changed? Reagan? It sure looks that way.
