When the end justifies the means, they paint themselves into some ridiculous corners... Saddam was a stable influence, Europe's double digit unemployment is better than America's 5% unemployment, Medicare is great, higher taxes will solve any problem higher taxes created, defending yourself against terrorism creates more terrorists, a nuclear Iran is ok but a nuclear Israel is unacceptable, record low temperatures are proof of global warming, "free" health care is always "better" health care, etc...
