Maybe rationing is necessary, but there is a lot that could be done to reduce costs now without it. Insurance competition across state lines and capping malpractice awards come to mind.

The truth is none of this legislation is really about saving money as the administration would suggest. It is totally about getting a government option as a precursor to single payer. And IMO, that is a precursor to socialized medicine (although I may not live to see it...)

I don't think they give a damn about saving money, personally, other than is required to make the legislation doable.
