snopes.com believes that Obama was born in Honolulu, citing the account of someone who worked for the hospital and remembered the birth because it isn't every day that "Stanley had a baby"

It could just be that the paperwork which would absolutely prove where Obama was born doesn't exist so they can't produce it. Maybe the short form birth certificate is all there is.

You probably know all this, but a good explanation of the different types of birth certificates....

If Obama wanted to produce his long birth certificate if he was born in the US, there would be one. Electronic certificates were not available in 1961.
