That's true. Medicare didn't pay $14,000 for his care.

I've dealt with Medicare and Medicaid many times in the course of settling lawsuits where the plaintiff's medical bills were paid under the program.

I remember one where the bill totaled something like $300,000, but the amount paid was $85,000 or so. That's not unusual.

It's the same with insurance carriers and their contracted providers.
