The fact is that the fiscal year ended 9/30/2000 ended with a national debt of $5.67 Trillion. As of 9/30/2008, it was 10.63 Trillion -- a difference of 4.95 Trillion. That is a precise figure, so 7T is out of the question.

Now, my 4T was an understatement, but in reality, the $350T from TARP I will apparently be repaid in significant part within the fiscal year. Sure, you won't try to credit Obama with THAT?

So, a good number would be 4.5-4.6T which is quite a bit closer than your 7T. I was ballparking it, but now I have provided you with relatively precise figures.
