That sort of thing has probably served her well during the rise of feminism in politics. Challenge a conservative on who they are rather than on the facts to be discussed on the table. All you had to do was sneer and spit the words 'white male' out to get approval from the 70s and through most of the 90s. There are many ways to do that. Don't call me ma'am, was one of them, or at least an attempt.
