Apple Defies Gravity.

By DUNCAN MARTELL
1997 Bloomberg News

>Apple Computer Inc. shares rose 1.13 percent
Monday -- the only stock in the Standard & Poor's
500 Index that managed to do so.

All except one of the other 498 stocks in the index
fell, while Ohio Edison Co. was unchanged. It was
the worst rout in U.S. stocks since the crash of
1987, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged
554 points before trading was closed early.

''Who would've thought Apple would be a safe
place to put your money?''<

Dated, but I thought I'd post it for the record.

If I was a cartoonist, I'd draw a picture of Sir Isaac Newton under a tree wondering why the apple was rising from his hand.

PPS: Off topic, but I recommend the followin site:

It's a discussion group for closed end funds. Some professional mangers and no small amount of wisdom on world markets. You have to register to post but well worth the lurk.
