Lott and others are in the business of concocting emotionally pleasing accusations that pander to their readership. Facts have been optional for a long time in that business, but it pays so well, why should they care? ;<)

It's not a debate about the comparative characteristics of health care systems, national cultures around health care, how to reduce costs, none of it. It's simply about finding some factoid to throw at viewers/readers/listeners that they will believe. You said it so much better than I was able to! That's true of a lot of the "news", including the RW's constant harping on O's declining numbers and how dissatisfied people are becoming. I have to remind myself to not fall into the trap. Of course they are falling. People are hearing scary stuff from the RW, they are very nervous about the numbers with good reason, the aren't quite sure exactly what this healthcare plan IS. Obama is caught between the need to act quickly, and the growing perception that he is going too fast, and caving to the far left. It's like hearing you have to have major surgery and you aren't told why and given time to absorb it, because the dr wants to get it done fast while the OR is ready and no one wants to explain it to you carefully. I had that happen to me when I was 23, and can still remember the terror I felt. It was so great that I literally took hold of the doorframe and refused to let them move me until my husband got there. Time HAS to be taken to educate, not scare or ignore.
