If every bill passes is in the "middle" of the Democratic party that means it will be well left of most in this country.

I actually don't think that's the case. If you approach this in terms of policy questions rather than left/right political alignment, it doesn't work out that way. To take one for instance item, the public option. All the polls I've seen show it well supported; not a sort of leftish fad.
