All these questions instantly become non-issues once we abandon the egalitarian notion that everyone must be treated the same.

Can we as a community afford to spend $6K a month in order to keep each lung cancer patient alive a little longer? I think not. However, if some individuals are willing to shell out the big bucks - Why should we object? And what right do we have to object?

Let them do what they want - spend 6K, or a 100K. What they spend is none of my business. Maybe as a result, in time those treatments will come down in price and become more accessible to others.
