I remember that -- it's why I included the "(JFK / Goldwater)" alternative in my post. Also it was one of the reasons JFK went to Austin, Houston and Dallas in Nov. 1963 -- to bolster his support in Texas.

JFK poll numbers were bad, he might have lost in 64

Oh bummer! A hell of a way to boost you poll numbers and get your head on a half dollar. My family had connections with the Gambino family and they weren't very happy with the Kennedys either. It wasn't just the Chicago mob. Remember there were Kennedy family ties to the mobs from the bootleg days. There were also mob ties to the Democrats. Who do you think owned and ran the Unions?
