Are you retiring today? If not that or withdrawing the funds then it is just as meaningless as real estate prices in 2006 to the market today.

Am I retiring today? No. I will in about 4 years time. However today, in my 401k I can pull out my money and put it in money market and lock the profits. To me that is money in the bank. I know of many who did so when the market started to slip in mid-08.
