If it's one of the tired old pinata issues, I ignore the trolls and move on. When it's something new or something that has obviously been twisted, distorted or outright lied about (i.e. attributing positions to people whose beliefs are the opposite) it's worth a quick factual pass to put the issue and the poster in their place.

I caught a few minutes of CNN talking about the birth certificate issue. They had someone from factcheck.org as well as someone who said he thought Obama should just show the birth certificate at a press conference. The moderator asked the person from factcheck, why not do that? She replied with something like, "We looked into it last year, we found the proof that he was born in HI, we published it, and we wonder why the WH should spend any time at all on this. We just see it as, well, kind of insane."

Last time I will mention this topic.
