Meathead was incorrect.
Several days ago meathead indicated that I could get the dell p166
business dell pc for sub 1000.
Well, I thought there was a price drop and I didn't doubt him.
Well, he was incorrect. I had my dell rep quote me the dell p166 with
32 meg of ram and 3 yr warranty.
Meathead left off the fact that it came with 1 yr warranty. The cpq p166 comes with 3 yr warranty.
the cpq unit with 32 meg of memory is $1051. The dell unit is $1275.
Now I buy a lot from compucom to get that price from them (it is rock bottom.) I buy allot from dell too. So, the $1275 is discounted another 5-10% to $1148-$1211. I still can't get the price of $955 he was posting and even adding the warranty I need to buy I cannot get that price.
I don't think my Dell rep is trying to rip me off. These reps at dell are great. It was with a 2.1 gig drive like I get with the cpq.
The extra 16 meg with the copaq is what get's it over $1000.
Meathead doesn't even use a pc. he is a SUNW ws I beleive.
and, he certainly doesn't have a dell rep to talk too.
I don't think he was trying to flimflam me.
I think he was trying to give me a home unit for work...something I would never do. Or the 1.6 meg drive and forgot to check warranty.
this would account for the difference.

I know he was wrong on cpq gross margins. he said 25%..they are 27.4%.
He just never came back and corrected that one.
