In a forest hamlet I used to live in, there was a vacant haunted cabin that was on the other side of a creek and difficult to get to.

I found the 2 elderly sisters who owned the cabin to find out its history. They told me that back in 1938 during the 4th of July weekend, their aunt, who was 18 at the time, rode horseback up the mountain with her boyfriend to retrieve the chicken in the icebox. Several hours later, the boyfriend showed up at the picnic grounds saying the girl had choked to death. They found a chicken bone in her throat, but the family always believed he jammed it down her throat after strangling her. He was never prosecuted. So it's an unhappy soul haunting the cabin. I haven't been there in over 40 years and wonder if it's still there.
