That's one of the main things that threw the conservatives out of power after several years where their policies should have convinced the electorate to keep them in power for a generation. After all, these are the absolute best and only correct domestic and foreign policies in the known universe, right? They keep saying so, over and over and over and over. But the failure of those policies and the arrogant, vindictive exclusionary politics of Rove and Cheney soured the whole thing. And whenever a Republican moderate tries to argue for change and reform, they get cut off at the knees by the orthodox base. Not a pretty picture for those willing to face up to it. The rest are too busy screaming at everyone else to notice.
