One thing you should all know about today's rebound in Hong Kong: it was a purely technical bounce off of Wall Street. There was no news out of Hong Kong, and the Index opened up 1800 points and in fact traded down a bit off of that during most of the 4 hour trading day here, closing back around the open. While grateful for the bounce, and hoping that this kicks Wall Street up a bit more, Hong Kong's woes are likely to continue. My index futures traders think the index will test 8500 before its over. The economy here has a lot of problems, that really don't have much to do with the currency situation in SE Asia. The problem is that the economy is not and never really has been one based on true competition. It has always been rigged with a few individuals with very deep pockets making fabulous amounts of money through collusive arrangements involving, in particular, property speculation. The property market in particular is very vulnerable here and likely to go into deep recession.
