Victor:

If your PC won't bring up yesterdays results in the fund groups, try using the Touchtone Xpress - 1-800 544 5555 - where you can get the latest quotes on all individual funds.

Be careful about the fund selector #3 as one must signify "funds" not stocks.

Of course, the Select funds we're mostly interested in went up yesterday - the 28th - not enough to recover all of the loss from Monday, but it's a good start.

The Select funds are traded every hour. but before the hour
they can't tell you what price you would purchase them at.
so if one is quick in getting out and in, this can be a profitable
or loss place to be in, there is no charge to trade, once 3%
has been paid upfront.

i havn't had luck in the sector fund, although i had parked my
money into FSTCX till april -97, when the fund was behind the mkt.
i am planning to move is into energy svc. etc.
I HAVE HAD a hard time finding a place on the net, recommending
sectors. MAYBE WE CAN PUT FORTH OUR OPINIONS IN THIS GROUPS
REGARDS the HOT SECTORS TO BE IN! any takers :)

best wishes
aditya

Viktor, YOU ARE WRONG

Select funds are updated every hour. They are not a day behind. Where did you get that idea. I do it online with their software which is free. Call them and get all the details.

You can trade them just like stocks even options are available I believe.

Peace,

Dennis

If you are a select trader, you can either call in and get the last hourly price or there is a fax phone # that you can get the latest NAV. The updates are not available yet on the Fidelity web site. Also their internet servers maybe behind with all this volume. ..

..Yes!!!! the selects can be traded like stocks!! That is the whole select claim to fame. Narrow sector focus and the ability to get in and out quicklyl That is the whole strategy behind using a news letter like Bernie Kaplans. In order to stay on the positive part of the curve if you are a trader, you need to trade often. That is the whole theory behind Fast Track Mutual fund switching software. If we only hold the funds less than 30 days then we pay $15 per round turn and .7 of 1% for the trading cost once you have paid the initial 3% load. If you are trading in an IRA then the 3% usually is not charged.

Hope I have helped.

Hi Victor,

Here is a little more info that might help if you want to persue a buy and hold strategy. Kaplan did some analysis and back tested previous years. What he found that if you take the 5 or 6 best performers from the last year and design your portfolio equally between them for the next 12 months that the average was around 30% These funds from 1996 were FSELX, FSESX, FSBLX, FSRBX ,and FSVLX. You also could add FSGNX but I threw it out

. The return so far this year for these funds is, as of today is 30% from Jan 1, 1997.

Bernie calld this a simpleton portfolio but it seems more like a home run, based on the returns so far this year. You could use the same strategy on 1/1/98.
