Adults of any stripe or color should know that you don't want to fail the attitude test when confronted by police.

It's plain stupid and will inevitably escalate a situation.

Certainly Sgt. Crowley doesn't lack maturity. White or black, there's only so much guff a cop can take.

There has already been a department investigation on this and Sgt. Crowley has been cleared of any wrongdoing by his bosses.

The cop was right to ask for ID, then Gates went off. It was a lack of maturity on Gates part

Once the Cop knew it was Gates, he should have ignored Gate's tantrum and got out of there. Now he will go nowhere on THAT police department. Good Cop rule is, "don't screw with the rich and famous." They ARE powerful.
