and we should all be guaranteed living wages for life... the opportunity to work... it can go on and on. there has to be a line somewhere.

i'm not saying i know where it is. i do know two things...

1. the current system is totally corrupt.
2. trust the government at your own peril.

i also find it of note that folks tend to talk about "rights" a lot, but rarely bring up "responsibility."

i have the *right* to eat crap and get diabetes. i have the *right* to get healthcare and force others to pay for it!

GST,

Part of "Basic respect for the Constitution" in my opinion is not trying to claim it says things that it doesn't say. Neither primary and secondary education nor health care are mentioned in our Constitution. If the majority want to make both of these enumerated rights, then they should amend the Constitution to say so.

One part of my "big ugly ideology blinders" is something else that you mention in your post. I don't trust government to do things right because it DOESN'T do things right. This government isn't interested in equal justice under the law. Otherwise we might not have had the financial crisis we are now in, the SEC would have stopped Bernie Madoff and the Fed and the Treasury would have stopped the insane mortgage lending practices that brought much of this about. No, this government is responsive to interests that have an interest, financial or otherwise, in getting office holders into office.

As a realistic Libertarian, I realize that we have to have policemen. But if the policemen aren't even doing their job, why do we even conceive of giving them even more authority?

Regards,

Reilly
