It was more than just racism, it was also arrogance that led the professor to exhibit how he felt his elitism allowed for him to never be questioned by lowly police officers. As a man who has spent 33 years in law enforcement, in the same circumstances I certainly would have expected the the police to have perceived me as a possible burglar. Included in that statement in that experience there have been many times when myself and others in my unit have been stopped briefly in the middle of a foot pursuit because a local officer with little information acted responsibly. It all isn't like TV and movies.

The professor was just an uppity elitist reacting to his own stupidity for having lost his keys and taking it out on the police sergeant. The racism came in secondarily when after losing his temper the real man emerged and that man is a racist. He made a show for everyone and was arrested for the display.
