"i'll speak with your momma outside." man, i just had an 8th grade flash back. <shakes head> wow! having said that, it was stupid to arrest this guy. i really doubt that statement was the beginning of hostility between the police and the property owner who was on his own property. if gates makes a racial comment about black people being done dirty, the officer could've said, "sir, i realize that this must be an inconvenience if this is your home, however, we have to verify this. if this were your home and i wasn't speaking to you right now, you'd appreciate our efforts. we need to see identification." in this case, the cop had no people skills or an outsized ego with ZERO sense of perspective. now, if the cop knew this guy was the owner of the home and tried to order him out of the house... the cops are stupid. cut their budget - they have too much free time.
